Leonardo da Vinci (15. 4. 1452 - 2. 5. 1519) - multitalented Italian artist of the Renaissance period. Author of famous paintings of the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa.
Leonardo was the illegitimate son born in the Tuscan town of Vinci, specifically in the area called Anchiano. When he was fifteen, he became his teacher acclaimed Florentine artist Andrea del Verrochio in which to learn, for example, Sandro Botticelli and Perugino Pietro. Leonardo at his teacher made such an impression that he himself is reportedly decided not to continue painting. The most famous of Leonardo's paintings include works brilliantly decorated Last Supper (1498), which depicts Jesus and his apostles at the Last Supper. The mural is located in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. Equally famous portrait became Mona Lisa, Leonardo who before his death he sold to the French king Francis I. Today the work is stored in the Louvre.
Leonardo was very creative and his talent knew no bounds: It was used as a sculptor, architect, musician, had knowledge of medicine and astronomy, but he was also an inventor. Until now preserved several thousand technical drawings, which reveal how Leonardo in his thoughts ahead of his time. Among his ideas emerged, for example, an airplane, a parachute, a lathe, a paddle propulsion, sketched with a human powered helicopter and other technical interests. According to the original drawings and without modern technology by many of these proposed facilities were functional, yet show a striking shot of Leonardo's talent.
